Difference Between Junction, Terminus, and Central indian Railway

Indian Railway is the 4th largest rail network in the world after USA, China, and Russia.While travelling by train, you must have noticed different names of railway stations containing various suffixes like Cantt, Terminal, Halt, Road, etc. so we cover this in this 

Junction

If there are at least 3 different routes coming in and going out of a station, then it is called a Junction. In simpler tearm , when trains enter the station should have at least 2 different routes to leave the station. Some famous  examples of Junction are:

- Mathura Junction (7 routes)
- Salem Junction (6 routes)
- Vijayawada Junction (5 routes)
- Bareilly Junction (5 routes)

Terminus

When the trains can enter and exit the station in only one direction, a station is known as a terminus / terminal. In other words, the tracks end in the opposite direction. In simple word A "terminus" is a station at the end of a railway line.when Trains arriving there  journeys end.

-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)
- Bandra Terminus (BDTS)

Cantt

Cantonment stations are those railway stations which was established near a military station.The term ‘Cantonment’ stands for a large army establishment. Cantt. stations are unique because of army bases in different cities and s have facilities that the defense forces can use for their needs such as logistics, squad transfer, troop movement etc. Many Cantt stations in India are small stations with limited stoppages of trains on them like Delhi Cantt, Meerut Cantt etc, but there are some cities which have Cantt stations serving as the main station for the city. Some of them are Agra Cantt, Ambala Cantt etc
