Kalka Shimla Toy train ride is one of India's most incredible feats of engineering covering a staggering 102 tunnels, 864 bridges, and 919 stunning curves.Train is said to be one of the most scenic railway journeys in India.The Shimla toy train was declared as a heritage site in 2007 by the Himachal Pradesh State Government and in 2008 it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.This train ranks at fourth position in the world heritage list of UNESCO.
The Kalka–Shimla railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow-gauge railway in North India which traverses a mostly-mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages.Construction of the Kalka–Shimla railway on 2 ft (610 mm) narrow-gauge tracks was begun by the privately funded Delhi-Ambala-Kalka Railway Company following the signing of a contract between the secretary of state and the company on 29 June 1898.The government however provided the land free of charge to the company.
The Kalka- Shimla toy train route is spread across 96 km from Kalka to Shimla.
It has four types of train rides:

Rail Motor - 300 Rs
Himalayan Queen - Rs 260
Shimla Kalka Express - Rs 70
To book the Shimla toy train, follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Go to the official website of IRCTC
Step 2: Register yourself
Step 3: Click 'plan my travel'
Step 4: Select the railway stations, select from Shimla (SML)
Step 5: Fill up the required details, like the date of travel, type of ticket.
Step 6: Click on 'book ticket'
Step 7: The ticket reservation page will appear where you will have to check if the train details are the same as you opted for
Step 8: Make the payment
